Where we are amidst COVID - 19

Over the past few months, the Family Room has been very busy!  We have been providing food, diapers and supplies to many families on a weekly basis making sure they have most of their basic needs met.  Thank you to all the donors, foundations, organizations and individuals who have supported our efforts.

Currently, the Family Room is running the preschool at half capacity.  Chong Ho Kim is teaching the on-site class.  Jackie Reno continues to direct the Preschool while taking on the role of Program Manager making sure we are supporting our staff and providing quality programming that supports families with what they need right now.

Our current programming includes computer literacy classes for New Americans, coupled with Parent University.  Our new Food Pantry is continually filling and emptying our shelves to provide families with culturally appropriate foods along with diapers, masks, sanitizer and household goods.  Our Family Support team is staying connected with parents and children via phone, Zoom meetings or in-person; practicing our safety protocols for Covid, ensuring that parents are getting some contact with us and that we are attuned to their needs.

Keegan is providing supports for dads, including a limited number of visits at the Family Room, while offering fathering and supports groups via Zoom for dads.  He can be contacted at keegan@thefamilyroomvt.org.  Dayva, who began with us about 6 months ago, is running the Healthy Families from the Start program focused on engaging parents prenatally and supporting them in various ways to prevent and minimize postpartum mood disorders and help them begin their families healthfully.  She can be reached at dayva@thefamilyroomvt.org.

The Building Strong Families Clinic has been running with little interruption.  Dr. Andrea Green and her team are working with one family at a time to support their well being.  We hope to get back to group visits and teaching when the time is right.  If you have any questions, please contact Manisha at manisha@thefamilyroomvt.org.

Our dedicated staff are working hard to provide the most needed supports for families during the pandemic.  We are in the process of getting all of our staff vaccinated and will continue to practice safety protocols.  We are so grateful for all of the volunteers, interns, partnerships and contributions from the community to help us do our work.  Our Board of Directors is staying connected to our mission as we are currently working on our strategic plan for the next 3 years.  Thank you everyone for being a part of our Family Room family!!

With immense gratitude,

Josh Miller
